Summer reading programs are valuable in many ways for the children participation; children that attend summer reading programs are most likely to become most successful in school.
Reading practices improves word recognition, build vocabulary, improves fluency and comprehension is a powerful source of word knowledge and is a way to develop understanding of a complex written language syntax and grammar.
Children who attend summer reading camp programs read on a higher level than those who do not attend. However, most children do very little reading out of school during the summer and only a small number of children read for extended periods of time.
In conclusion it is very beneficial to place children in a summer reading program because it enhance there ability to stay focus on continuing to read, and a chance to start the learning process early.
