Working with videos in the ESL/EFL classroom allows students to experience the language being used in authentic situations. They create context for natural and real language practice. Students of all ages and levels can profit from watching videos. (advanced, intermediate and beginners). Some of them require more preparation and are more time-consuming but some are not.
Here are some possibilities you can try out:
- fill in the blanks (parts of characters speech that students may fill in the blank with the missing words);
- who said these (sentences characters said during the video, students have to determine who said them);
- match expressions (match parts of sentences, connecting with their continuation);
- answer questions (teacher prepares some questions beforehand, students watch and get the answers);
- elaborate questions (students have to elaborate questions while they watch the video);
- put certain information in order;
- circle the correct answer;
- write true or false;
- vocabulary (build a vocabulary list, make a sentence, write translation of words);
- silent video; www.getenglishlessons.com/discussion-games/ Students can invent dialogues.
This list goes on and on. As far as your imagination can take you.
