Barbie Dolls are back in the news again and this time it isn't positive. Mattel is selling a new Barbie that sports pink hair and tattoos. Her name is Tokidoki Barbie and many parents are upset. The company does not make Barbie Dolls for children exclusively though as Mattel has a webpage build for adult collects of Barbie. And this is simply not the first time that Barbie has ended up on the front page of news stands under negative circumstances.
A few generations ago there was previously a Teen Talk Barbie who complained that Math was hard." This obviously offended many women making it seem like women were dumb and lazy. Then there was the Barbie Doll called Video Girl which carried a hidden camera within it. That doll had Federal Bureau of Investigation issuing warnings to parents that some adults may use it to film children unknowingly.
The new doll is just about the appearance and the modern age of tattoos. Barbies are no longer home makers and in the medical field. Today's Barbies represent the changing environment that we live in.
The new Barbie pink short hair symbolizing the alternative youth today. The tattoos the go across her shoulders are highly representative of the many young folks who adorn tattoos as a representation of who they are.
Simone Legno was the creative designer behind the new doll. She placed many tattoos on the Tokidoki Barbie covering her neck, shoulders and chest areas. Dark clothes with a heart-shaped skull and crossbones complete the wardrobe in addition to leopard tights. The doll also comes with a mini dog that most girls today appear to have while also adding a handbag and styling set of shades."
The company does not like the negative nature of the parents providing feedback. Parents feel the skirt is far quite short, and that the tats are for adults since most states have an 18 and up regulation.
Most of the parents are really just complaining about the tattoos and its irresponsibility to the children. Mattel should not be surprised by the response by most parents simply because they had a Barbie with tats before. Barbie and Mattel are no strangers to tats given that it was just a few years ago that two Barbies were taken off the racks after parent voiced their opinions about the Barbies. Now it looks as though this new Barbie was a measured move.
Mattel has answered the complaints saying the tattoo was released for adult collectors and not children. Besides this doll, there's a lot of dolls for adult collectors on Mattel's official site. This Tokidoki Doll retails at $50 and is out of stock. Barbie is no longer just a kids toy anymore. And this brand new doll proves that Mattel will change with the times as great companies must.
