Exclusive Breast Feeding

There is now overwhelming evidence of the health advantages of breastfeeding as indicated by lower infant morbidity and mortality and therefore control and therefore contributing significantly to the achievement of the millennium development goals (MDGs) recent research finding that breast feeding within thirty minutes of birth could prevent an estimated percent of U-5 mortalities confirm the importance of early initiation of breast feeding and its role in new born up to the age of 6 months.

The era of promotion of breast feeding alone is gone and it is now a renewal strategy to not only promote exclusive breast feeding but also support breast feeding mothers. The lack of social support system at the household and community levels are also a barrier to optimal breastfeeding, mothers required an enabling environment if they are to practice optimal breast feeding and this can only be possible with community levels. At both the household and the community levels.

To maximize resources and population coverage breast feeding promotion and support should, to the extent possible, be effectively integrated with all initiatives and services that affect infants and young child health and development.

As nursing mothers need to learn fundamental basics of breastfeeding, which consists of getting off to a good start, handling common and not so common issues on the phenomenon of breast feeding, such knowledge and  information on how to pump, when to pump, which breast to pump and more.

Having this understanding that breastfeeding is a natural process and it is as much science as it is art. Nursing mothers  there fore need to understand the benefits of breastfeeding their babies, from newborn babies to older babies, how to handle problems as they arise and where to find support and information on choosing a breast pump and pumping.

Because breastfeeding is not just a natural process, much of a science as it is art.
