Loss adjuster is the person who is being hired by an insurance company and investigates insurance claims by interviewing policy holder and person who became witnessed the loss to property or business to make sure it was an unforeseen incident.  Consult with other people and cross check with police station and hospital to verify if there was any third party damage. The fee of assessor is charged as some part of percentage of the claim amount that goes around 10 to 35%.  The claim amount is not finalized by insurance company until loss adjustor completes his evaluation and the queries which will be questioned from policy holder and other witnesses. If you will your claim has not been properly settled then you can ask your assessor to reopen the case and file for higher amount of settlement but keep in mind loss adjuster will be there again to cross examine.
