A British Rich Couple Who Have neither Sons nor Daughters Bring up A Robot Child

Tony and Judy Ellis, a couple living in English, do not have a son or a girl and do not breed a pet. Yet a robot named “Aimec” keeps them company which lets they do not feel alone anymore.

The robot child is 1.2 meters high

Aimec is the English simplified form of “artificial intelligence mechano-electronic companion”. With a height of 1.2 meters, Aimec is designed with Tony’s own hands by him. In the eyes of Mister and Missis Ellis, Aimec is their own child seemingly. The three families are living in a country apartment which was built in 18th century and located in Crowborough of Sussex, Britain.

Aimec can walk freely with the help of wheels fixing on his feet and switch on or turn off all kinds of electrical appliances according requests of Mister and Missis Ellis. He can sing songs, make jokes and answer questions. There is a mini-computer installed in the head of Aimec which saves some specially made procedure programs and can connect to wireless Internet access. The UK's Daily Mail quoted Judy who said: “Sometimes Aimec seems like having his own life. ……. Tony designed a program which can let him snore when he is sleeping and stretch himself when he wakes up.”

When it comes to this “child”, Tony is a face of satisfied facial expression. “My nephews and nieces like to play with him, his strange and odd character is like me”, he said, “The robot can be genuine friend.”

Previously developed a number of toys

Mister and Missis Ellis is operating a toy company, previously developed a number of toys which are popular among children. “Aimec is a very good toy”, Tony said.

Tony believes that robots like Aimec can be able to access to market finally and entry into the average families, even being good helpers. According to his assumption, “Within 10 years all families without exception will have robots to help them mow the lawn, cook the meal and tidy up rooms.” He said, the development of robot is similar to the developmental level of computer in the late 80's during which time one did not dream that computer can reach this level at present.

Plan to bring up more robots

The couple ever brought up several robot “children”, but Aimec with the age of three years old is their newest and cleverest child. Tony is working to “bring up” another Aimec which will have human face recognition system.
