The Desire To Shine

In the nature, a lot of animals like to decorate their homes with shining stones or glass. So do we human beings, and we even like to decorate ourselves with shining metal, stone, etc.

Why do we like these glittery things? I think this plants deep in our nature. May be we grow up under the sun, the moon and the stars, but they are too far from us to be known. So they remain beautiful and mysterious in our minds. They are often seen as the symbol of Gods, religions and holiness.

Or maybe lights means too much for human, especially in the acient times. Sunshine and fire are the essencial factors to make our species live. They help us drive away darkness, fear and the unknown. They warm us up and make us safe.

Things have changed a lot in modern days. But people still were easily caught by shining stuff. Our eyesight follow the glittery things. Is this a good explanation to why we like to dress ourselves with sparklers? Yes, we want to catch others’ eyesight. We want the eyesight to stop on ourselves for a little longer.

Jewelry helps a lot. Around the necks, around the wrists, or on the hair, on the ears, something, for example, a diamond/ sapphire/ ruby/ emerald/ crystal/ agate/ amber was there.
